Rumor: Why Club 33 Could Indeed Be Coming to Walt Disney World

Rumor: Why Club 33 Could Indeed Be Coming to Walt Disney World

Before starting this article, I just want to go ahead and say that I have not heard any official information about the topic from the Disney company. However, there is a great amount of speculation which has recently re-surfaced from credible sources. While we try not to report any news simply based on rumor, in this case it was simply too interesting to pass up.

Club 33 is an exclusive member only dining location with a unique club atmosphere at the Disneyland park. The location has been around for many years and membership is quite expensive to obtain. The list to become a member is very long and the location itself is steeped in Disney history (that’s a story for another day). When Walt Disney World was built, the concept was not brought over to the Orlando area theme park.

With that being said, rumors have swirled for years that it will eventually make it’s debut here at Walt Disney World on the east coast and to quote Carousel of Progress, “Now is the time, now is the best time!” No official plans or designs have ever surfaced for the location in the past and it still remains that way today. Recently, however, the rumors have been given new life in an honestly believable way for a variety of reasons. (photo: diszine.com)

The latest rumors floating around from supposedly legitimate sources focus on an idea of a Club 33 coming to the Magic Kingdom and quite possibly all four of the Orlando parks. Again, this is simply rumor, but it is also believed that the new club will feature a non-transferable membership separate from the Disneyland location. That particular idea would require that members purchase separate memberships on an individual park location basis.

To further the viability of the rumor, on the Dis Unplugged podcast recently, one particular member of the group mentioned the rumor and stated that the source reliability was a 10 on a scale of 1-10 without hesitation. Also, the Orlando Sentinel made a somewhat off hand reference to Club 33 in an article focused on the new “cabanas” in Tomorrowland. In the past, the Orlando Sentinel has been one of Disney’s go-to sources for new theme park additions and debuts. This generalization is less reliable and could simply be a coincidence, but it does in fact make sense with Disney’s current marketing strategies. (photo: doctordisney.com)

Everywhere you look these days, Disney is adding a premium, add-on experience. The add-ons are supposedly partially due to overruns in many other areas of operation domestically as well as world-wide. The “luxury” push is the perfect fit for a Club 33 debut. It would sell out in terms of membership almost instantly, and would fit the current mindset of the company as well. However, one problem still remains, where would they put it/them?

My best guess for Magic Kingdom would be an addition at the end of East Center Street or potentially just passed Tony’s where crowds are often re-routed during closing time throughout peak seasons.

Let us know your best guess on the location or any other rumors you may have heard along the way! While nothing is confirmed, it definitely is a very interesting concept that could become a reality in the coming years.

What to Pack When Attending the Parks Around the Holidays!

What to Pack for Disney – Holiday Edition
by: guide4wdw – Caitlin

instagram: @guide4disney

As my brother and I get ready for our Disney trip that is coming up (we’re so excited), I’ve been thinking a lot about packing for Disney during the winter months. This can present quite a challenge, especially if you’ve never been to Orlando before during the holiday season. I’ve put together my very best tips for traveling to see The Mouse during winter. (photo: disneyworldenthusiast.com)

Always Wear Layers
This is my most important tip. When traveling to Orlando in the winter months, the weather can be anything but predictable. This means temperatures can range from 40-80 degrees in any given day (and often throughout a single day). I know what you are thinking: How can I possibly dress for that? What I’ve found works best is to wear long pants that can be rolled up or capri pants each day. If you’re a male, you will have to decide if your legs can brave the cold mornings and evenings for shorts. If not, you’ll be stuck with pants. – Sorry boys, you get the short end of the stick with versatility.

For the upper half of the body, I recommend wearing two layers. In the morning, the temperatures are usually (not always) around mid 50’s. This seems unusually chilly in Orlando where you are expecting a hot and humid climate. A good bet is to wear a short sleeved t-shirt (or ¾ sleeve for ladies) paired with a light sweatshirt or sweater. This will take the edge off of the chill without leaving you sweaty as the day warms up. If you are a backpack carrier, stash your sweatshirt into your bag when the temperatures near 70. Because I like to pack as light as possible for the parks, my choice is to tie my sweater around my waist. This may not be the most fashionable choice, but I promise you will tire of carrying it around!

Don’t Forget Your Poncho
Winter is not Florida’s rainy season, but that does not mean a famous WDW 15 minute shower can’t appear out of nowhere. Half of the battle with packing for Disney is being prepared. Being soaked to the bone at the back of Animal Kingdom is enough to ruin anyone’s day. Don’t let that be you! Before making your trip to Orlando, stop by your local Dollar Tree for some disposable ponchos. These are very light and take up little space in your park bag. You can thank me later!

Bring Something Festive
Traveling to Disney in the winter means the parks are packed with holiday festivities. Be sure to join in the fun by wearing holiday-ready pieces too! One of my favorite holiday accessories is a Disney Christmas T-shirt. Linked below are a few of my favorites. You can also pick out some Christmas Mickey ears or Santa hats. If you want to save a little cash, visit your local stores with Disney Licenses (Target, Big Lots, JC Penny) and search for Disney holiday accessories to bring with you!

Check the Weather
This tip is extremely important. I mentioned above that Orlando temperatures have a very wide range during the winter months. Because of this, checking the weather carefully before arriving at Disney is imperative to enjoying your holiday vacation. The week of your trip may be unseasonably cold. If this is the case, you do not want to be the only one at Hollywood Studios without a coat during Fantasmic. It’s not fun, trust me! Your days at Disney may also be quite warm. If so, be sure to pack shorts and breathable fabric tops. When preparing for a Disney vacation, it is okay to over pack! I recommend taking clothing items for both possible scenarios (even if your weather forecast says 75 and sunny all week).

Bonus Tip: Prepare for the Crowds
If you have never been to Disney around the holidays, the crowds can be somewhat of a shock. Be prepared in advance and be sure to pack a lot of patience. Keep in mind that most Disney dining locations will not have openings for walk ups. Reservations must be made several weeks (and often months) in advance. Also, take advantage of the FastPass Plus program. This allows you to bypass lines for the most popular attractions. The holidays are also a great time to do some Resort Hopping. Take a break from the parks during the most crowded times (mid to late afternoon) and visit some of the beautiful resorts. They are fully decked out for the holiday season. My must see is the life-size gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian!

I know, that last one wasn’t really a packing tip. But, I couldn’t end a holiday post without it. Keep these tips and tricks in mind, and you will be sure to enjoy your Disney trip during the holidays.

*We will be visiting the parks during the week of December 18. We would love to meet some of you! Leave a comment down below or tweet us @Guide4Disney if you will be around during the week before Christmas!

6 of the Many "Hidden Secrets" of Main Street U.S.A.

6 of the Many “Hidden Secrets” of Main Street U.S.A.

Magic Kingdom is a unique park in the world of theme park entertainment. Everything has a purpose and the design far exceeds expectations. While we could spend days exploring and learning about every little corner of the park and every little detail of the Disney theme park experience, we’ll have to save that for another day. Today, we’re taking a trip down Main Street U.S.A. in hopes that you find something unique to appreciate and possibly even experience the next time you’re in the park. As a bit of a Disney history and hidden secret connoisseur I truly believe that once you recognize the details in what you see, and sometimes simply in what you hear or learn about through history, you grow to have a greater appreciation of what you are witnessing around you throughout your Walt Disney World Experience.

Voice Lessons:
As you walk “right down the middle of Main Street U.S.A.” (♫♬🎶) be sure to take a minute to head down East Center Street for a quick little surprise. While the street was used for unique merchandise sales when the park opened in 1971, selling plants and large paintings, today it holds an entirely different secret. As you head down the short little “street” look up at the windows high above you. One particular window is reference to a studio where voice lessons are being performed. However, if you listen carefully, you can hear a singer practicing inside of the building. While very few guests will notice the authentic nature of the window, the select few that do will remember it as being one of the little details that truly sets Disney apart.

The Hidden Conversation:

On your next trip to the parks, set aside your plans for the day for just a few minutes and head on over to The Chapeau hat shop for an unexpected surprise! Walk to the very back of the store and get ready for a quaint little surprise that may very well be a simple highlight of your time on Main Street U.S.A. It’s not an elaborate spectacle, but rather a simple hidden gem hiding in plain sight. Once you reach the back of the store look around for a seemingly “innocent” prop of a antique telephone hanging on the wall. Pick up the phone and put the receiver to your ear to witness a little surprise conversation that only Disney magic could create. The conversation is a simple loop of a party line of days gone by where a group of women are ease dropping on each others conversations and being appalled at the rising prices of everyday grocery items. While this isn’t something most guests notice at first, it is quite certainly one of the hidden secrets of Magic Kingdom hiding in plain sight! (photo: worldofwalt.com)

It’s Set Up Like a Classic Film:

As you enter the park and travel towards your favorite attraction take a minute to observe the situation as it unfolds around you. Experience the smell of popcorn in the air as you begin your journey down the street, the reveal of the grand scale of all the buildings as you emerge from underneath the train station, and observe the names on the windows as you walk. It’s as if the big reveal of the castle is planned… Well, that’s actually because it was.

When you think about each element of the experience it makes sense. The elements your witnessing are set up identically to the way you would attend a theatre for a large-scale on screen production. Emerging form below the station is just like opening the curtain, the smell of popcorn is exactly what you would smell as you entered the building, those names on the buildings emphasize distinct individuals who made the “production” possible in the opening credits of the film, and the castle and hub of the park is the on-stage production you’ve come to experience!

To top it all off, Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse (in statue form) are the final thing you witness when you leave Main Street. The producers who created the production you’re about to witness. Everything is just like a movie and we all know how successful Walt Disney was in creating a motion picture empire! (photo: disneyparks.disney.go.com)

The Penny Arcade:
While no longer a part of the magic, one particular element of Main Street still manages to warm the hearts of kids that have grown up in and around the Disney Parks, The Penny Arcade. While a similar version still remains at Disneyland, even it pails in comparison to the classic arcade that once held a place on Main Street U.S.A. The seemingly simple location was something that continues to be increasingly difficult to explain as the world of modern technology slowly eliminates the need for an arcade environment.

The penny arcade was something best described as a sensory experience. The games weren’t what you see today, but rather classics long before even the years of pacman and space invaders. These games had a certain mechanical aspect to them. In many ways, looking back on those creations, they were more of a marvel of engineering or an art form rather than a game in the first place. There were Mutoscopes and Cail-O-Scopes that played the original motion pictures along with fortune tellers and other classic games. Everything was unique and something that you can no longer find in today’s society.

Unfortunately, in 1995 the Penny Arcade was completely removed from the Magic Kingdom. The Main Street Fashion Apparel Store (Hall of Champions) now fills the location left open as the Arcade only lives on in the minds of those who witnessed it first hand. Unfortunately, pictures of the arcade are quite difficult to locate, so if you have any please be sure to share them in the comments below. I would love to see them!

The Magic Shop:

As another secret of days of Disney passed, very few remember the neat little Magic Shop which was located directly on Main Street! While the story is incredibly hard to find any information about currently, you can only go off of stories that have been passed on from what the experience was like. According to reports I’ve heard over the years, the shop featured a variety of unique gifts and simple tricks that were unique yet entertaining to purchase or even just to view as you wondered through the shops of Main Street.

The store, which many believe to have had a slightly darker lighting than the rest of the shops, seemed to invite mystery and develop a sense of wonder. While very few souvenirs from the store have stood the test of time, one particular item can be found if you search the internet for hours on end. While not “magic” per say, Disney sold a secret panel chest decorated to match the theming of The Haunted Mansion (a Disneyland version is pictured below). The chest has been a prized collectible for Disney collectors for quite some time. Amazingly, I truly believe it’s desired not for monetary value, but rather to continue that legacy of the shops of Main Street in the minds of those who got to experience the joy of the stores first hand. It was a different time in Disney history where everything was built to create a certain level of realism in the parks. Today, we have one big store on Main Street and the remnants of a wonderful concept. While, from a marketing standpoint, the new design simply makes more sense, it’s hard not to imagine how wonderful it must have been!

The Reference to Summer Magic:
If you walk over near the Emporium’s first entrance (closest to the Train Station) a certain reference to the 1963 Disney Film Summer Magic appears in a fairly subtle way. At the bottom of one of the windows, look for the title “Proprietor.” Just above that title relating who the developer and conceptual creator of the emporium was (according to the Main Street “story”) you’ll find the name “Osh” Popham. In the film this character was portrayed by Burl Ives who later became known as the voice behind Sam the snowman in Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer in December of 1964. Did you like this type of historical article? If so, let us know and more like this will be on the way in the near future! I love sharing the stories of things that once were or that are often overlooked in the parks. It truly creates a story for where this place we all know and love came from and how it grew into what it has become today!

Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular is Returning to Hollywood Studios Sooner Than Expected

Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular is Returning to Hollywood Studios Sooner Than Expected

While Disney had originally stated that the Star Wars Spectacular would not run throughout the holidays at Hollywood Studios, new dates have been added for nights as soon as December 16th. While the current show Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! will continue as previously scheduled, Star Wars will return at the following times:
  • December 16th – 10:30pm
  • December 17th – 9:30pm
  • December 18th-30th – 6:15pm

(photo: disneyparksblog.com)

The return is expected to be used as marketing efforts for the upcoming Rogue One release. Rumor has it that even a few new scenes will debut within the show based off of the new movie. Disney has yet to confirm the reliability of these claims by a variety of different sources.

Other new additions are also appearing in Hollywood studios. A new guided tour centered around the Star Wars theme is in the works, the randomization of Star Tours will be returning mid-December, and Star Wars dessert parties will return in early 2017.

New "Fast Casual" Dinner Offering’s Now Available at ABC Commissary

New “Fast Casual” Dinner Offering’s Now Available at ABC Commissary
by: guide4wdw – Collin

twitter: @guide4disney
instagram: @guide4disney

Recently, the ABC Commissary at Hollywood Studios has debuted a new dining concept specific to the location. In the past, the commissary has not traditionally been regarded as one of the more popular dining destinations at Hollywood Studios despite it’s potential. The size of the location allows it to hold a large amount of guests, but it rarely remains crowded, especially by Disney standards.

At peek times you may find the dining room full, but on an average day in the parks, don’t expect a crowd like you would find at Starlight Cafe at Magic Kingdom. The new style of dining which has debuted specifically for dinner may look to change that lack of popularity in the near future.

The new style is changing the former counter service walk up service to an order and delivery system similar to what has been found at Be Our Guest’s lunch setting. Restaurant guests will go to the counter to order, then be given a pager to take to a table of their choice (assumably using a location based software). Once the meal is ready, a cast member will bring your order to the table as well as any other drinks or condiments you may need. In a way, it’s a “fast” table service meal with a much more budget friendly price.
In addition to the new dining concept, the ABC Commissary has developed a few new menu items. Here’s how the Disney Parks Blog Describes them:

“New appetizers include jalapeño poppers and pita chips with hummus. Fast-casual entrees include a juicy Chimichurri Steak served with a fire-roasted corn medley, hearty Barbecued Chicken and Ribs with coleslaw, and a Southwest Burger piled high with Pepper Jack cheese, bacon, guacamole and jalapeño poppers, all three are served with thick-cut steak fries.”

“Lighter options include a zesty Lemon Pepper Salmon, served with green beans and couscous and the Mediterranean Salad with tomatoes, onions, peppers, Kalamata olives and feta tossed in a Greek vinaigrette and topped with your choice of chicken or salmon. Kids will enjoy entrees like barbecued chicken, salmon or a burger.”

Many of these new offerings appear quite delicious! It’s always good to see Disney trying new things and developing bigger and better menus for their dining offerings.

Paid Express Bus Service is Set to Debut at Walt Disney World!

Paid Express Bus Service is Set to Debut at Walt Disney World!

by: guide4wdw – Collin
twitter: @guide4disney
instagram: @guide4disney

As the trend continues for paid add-on services at the Disney Parks, a new bus service is being offered beginning December 7th. The service, which costs $15 per guest per day, allows individuals to be picked up within the theme parks at designated locations and taken to other parks on property. The service is scheduled to operate from 10am to park closing with shuttle busses arriving every 30 minutes.

(photo: mlpforums.com)

An additional option of the service is a $24 per person multi-day express ticket. However, annual pass holders can only purchase the single day use option. Each of the parks is set to have it’s own designated pickup location which will be placed in backstage areas. The released stops are near the Carousel of Progress and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom, Near Spaceship Earth at Epcot, Just Outside of Rockin’ Rollercoaster at Hollywood Studios, and in Africa Near Kilimanjaro Safaris at Animal Kingdom.

The busses will utilize alternative routes and backstage areas to transport guests quickly and efficiently to their desired location. According to current news, for now there is only one pick up location at each of the 4 main parks. Water parks are not being included in the service at this point.

If you intend to purchase this additional service which is completely optional, you may add it on to your ticket when you purchase theme park admission or you can visit guest service locations throughout each park and add it on there as well. Granted that this is a paid service and an add on that should not change the guest experience for those who do not participate, I can appreciate the concept. However, due to the location of these bus stops, the “behind the scenes” views may deter from a certain level of “magic” the on-stage areas of the parks create.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Has Sold Out for Another Date!

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Has Sold Out for Another Date!

by: guide4wdw – Collin

instagram: @guide4disney

If you are planning a vacation to Walt Disney World this December and wish to attend Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, be sure to buy your tickets as soon as possible. A third date, December 18th, is officially sold out as of today!

While it is not out of the ordinary to see these events sell out (especially around Christmas time), the experience is being filled earlier and earlier each year. So far, three dates are sold out: December 18th, December 22nd, and November 18th sold out earlier in the year. For those of you who may not be familiar with the event, the Christmas party is a “hard ticket” event where guests pay an additional fee to enter the park at a select time for a payed special event.

The party features special live entertainment from your favorite characters, complimentary snacks, a special parade, and a one-of-a-kind fireworks spectacular! Just this year, the snacks we’re “re-imagined” and now feature a variety of new offerings specific to locations throughout the park.

If you’re attending the sold out event feel free to let us know! We will be in the park for the December 18th date and would love to say hello to some of our readers and friends.

Planet Hollywood Observatory Has a New opening Date… Again

Planet Hollywood Observatory Has a New Opening Date… Again

by: guide4wdw – Collin
twitter: @guide4disney
instagram: @guide4disney

While the transformation of Planet Hollywood into the Planet Hollywood Observatory was expected to take quite some time to re-develop, it appears as if it will once again be pushing back it’s opening date. Originally, the location was set to open in fall of this year. Unfortunately, that did not happen.

With the current state of construction at that point it did not come as a surprise that it would not be completed on time. However, when reservations popped up for booking as soon as December 15th it seemed quite possible that the construction would in fact be completed for those reservations. Just last week, all guests who booked dates after December 15th were notified that their reservations had been cancelled.

Today, new dates for reservations have popped up and this time it should be ready to go by the time of the given date. Reservations are currently being accepted starting January 3rd. While it may be a risky reservation, the restaurant should be completed by that time. Considering Planet Hollywood Observatory was a part of a media day at Disney Springs recently, it seems that they are gearing up for an opening which would point to the new reservation dates. While media was not allowed inside, they did sample many of the food items available, so it does in fact appear that delays are simply construction delays.

Are you looking forward to the re-design which includes an overhaul of the menu? Let us know what you think down below! (Like this article? SHARE it with friends and join our email list over on the right hand side of the page! Thanks!)

The Top 5 Things You May Not Know About Tomorrowland!

The Top 5 Things You May Not Know About Tomorrowland!
by: guide4wdw – Collin
twitter: @guide4disney
instagram: @guide4disney

Tomorrowland is an icon of nearly every Disney park around the world and for good reason. People have always been and always will be fascinated by what could be in store for the future. Things change, new ideas develop (especially at Walt Disney World) and new technologies make their way into the lives of each and every one of us. However, there’s a few things about Tomorrowland that even the most experienced Disney parks guests may have never known. That being said, we bring you not only 5 things You May Not Have Known About Tomorrowland but quite possibly our favorite 5 of all the vast possibilities of little known facts in the area! (photo: wdwnt.com)

1. The Design Isn’t Necessarily What Was Originally Proposed

Throughout the development of the Disney theme parks Walt Disney had elaborate and unique ideas that had never truly been developed before. As a result, getting those ideas on paper was a monumental task for multiple artists over the years. Taking the creative ideas and actually physically delivering them in a way that can be understood is an extraordinary task on it’s own, but that’s especially true when something has never been done before.

So, what was planned isn’t always exactly what became a reality. In the original drawings of Tomorrowland (the original, Disneyland version that is), there were no large wings of attractions to the left and right of the entrance, but rather a large semi-symmetrical design concept, complete with a transportation system of tomorrow. The right wing featured high, rounded, architecture and the left wing continued the pattern with a smaller rounded design. Also, as the land extended back towards what has become the Rocket Tower Plaza, the entire area was covered on each side of the walkway by a large asymmetrical roof that almost mimicked the canopies of large trees supported by rounded beams.

Beyond the structural architecture, the area featured “the transportation system of the future.” While we did eventually receive a variation of that system in many parks, this design was similar yet different to modern monorails. Opposed to the current design(s) the artwork portrays a hanging monorail with a pod style “ride vehicle”. While the design is certainly unique and quite innovative, I can assume that the concept never truly would have played out quite the way it was intended to over time.

While the design itself has a somewhat general appearance of what Tomorrowland became at multiple parks, it is quite unique to speculate on how one idea in this drawing could have sparked another idea and in turn created what we experience today.

2. The Carousel of Progress Was Developed Before it was Truly Developed

In the early 1960’s Walt Disney created the idea for a “Carousel of Progress.” As many of you may know, the attraction continues operation today at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. Fortunately that isn’t where the story ends. In an effort to get General Electric to sponsor a design and theme of “Progressland” at the 1964 New York World’s Fair Walt Disney created a full-scale concept for an audioanimatronic stage show that would be the first of it’s kind anywhere in the world.

However, after storyboarding and approving the design with G.E. an entire scene of the attraction was fully developed in California to prove that it could in fact be completed and fully operational. While today that doesn’t necessarily seem like a feat of engineering, to be able to create and replicate a design so original at that time was truly extraordinary in a way that is hard to put into words. They achieved the impossible, and yet were able to replicate it on the largest stage in the world, The World’s Fair!

Today, the attraction has stood the ultimate test of time and continues to entertain guests. It has  even received a few updates along the way. Most recently, the color scheme has been completely reimagined and it has been accepted widely by Disney enthusiasts.

3. Space Travel Was an Original Idea in Tomorrowland

While most of your minds go straight to Space Mountain when you think of space travel in Tomorrowland, there was actually a more “authentic” space travel experience that pre-dated even Space Mountain, Flight to the Moon. Flight to the Moon, which later became Mission to Mars, was an attraction that debuted on December 24, 1971. While the attraction was not ready as a day one attraction, it did pre-date Space Mountain by nearly 4 years.

The attraction itself was quite simple, yet it was the first reference to “authentic” space flight in Tomorrowland. The attraction was quite lack luster in it’s simulation of space. As the room remained stationary, video screens and special effects were utilized to replicate a space flight environment. If you take into consideration that this attraction later developed into Alien Encounter and Stitch’s Great Escape, you can imagine how unrealistic the space flight was.

Soon after the United States fascination with manned flight to the moon had essentially passed, Disney redeveloped the ride concept and it became Mission to Mars. While it was still just a slight variation of the same attraction, it gave the ride premise some new life for quite a few years. After it finished it’s run in 1993, it was replaced by Alien Encounter which is a somewhat scarier version of the current generation of the location, Stitch’s Great Escape. However, even that location has all but been abandoned with it’s operation now being limited to a seasonal basis.

4. It Was Supposed to Feature a Monorail Station at One Point

During the development of the plans for what was initially designed to become a Persian Resort, certain conceptual art documents feature a monorail loop that would enter into Tomorrowland. While the route was never developed as a result of the resort essentially being scrapped completely, the idea has never really been forgotten in Disney history the way they probably would have hoped.

Today, it’s not likely that such a track will ever be developed for a variety of reasons, but a good idea never gets overlooked at Imagineering so there’s no telling what could develop in the coming years. With the confirmation that new resorts are coming to Walt Disney World, Imagineering may come up with something that could totally shock both shareholders and guests alike. 5. At One Point Two Corporate Airline’s Sponsored Attractions

With the current corporate outlook at Disney to slap a logo or brand on anything, it may not come as a surprise that they’ve been doing this much longer than people realize. While I have some interesting opinions on the branding concept in the parks itself, I’ll leave that story for another time. With that being said, it is unique to look back at how one particular attraction or two if you’re being picky were essentially an advertisement.

Don’t get me wrong, these were classic dark rides utilizing the Omnimover ride system, and were essentially very entertaining rides at that point in time. However, the entire design of both variations of the attraction were quite heavily influenced by airline sponsors.

The first aviation sponsor was for a variation of the ride concept called, If You Had Wings. While the attraction was not all that popular, it featured a ride through design which took guests on a journey through a variety of destinations (“Coincidentally” all Eastern Airline Destinations) by means of projection images and other special effects. Unfortunately, the flight concept wasn’t all that convincing and the attraction struggled as a result. Despite it’s lack of popularity, Eastern Airlines remained the sponsor for the attraction until it was recreated as Delta Dreamflight. (photo: disneyparksblog.com)
When Delta took over the sponsorship, the ride changed somewhat drastically. While it stuck to the Omnimover ride type, it was redesigned as a trip through the history of aviation. While this attraction also lacked immense popularity, quite possibly leading to it’s end, the Delta sponsorship continued until the attraction was once again redeveloped by Disney into “Take Flight.” As you can imagine, without sponsorship, eventually Disney gave up on the concept and created the immensely popular “Buzz Lightyear’s space Range Spin!”
